Masikam Calculator – Monthly Śrāddha Tithi Dates

Masikam is the monthly ancestral rite in the first year after death. It is performed on the same lunar tithi as the death day—not the Gregorian calendar date—until the first annual Abdikam.

Enter the date of death and your place. Drikganita resolves the Aparāhṇa śrāddha tithi on that civil day, then lists the preferred monthly Masikam dates for the coming year.

Searchers often look for “masikam calculator”, “maasikam dates”, “masikam tithi”, and “மாசிகம் தேதி”. This tool answers those queries with local sunrise/Aparāhṇa astronomy (Swiss Ephemeris, Lahiri).

The day before Masikam is commonly kept as Sodhakumbam (சோதகும்பம்) in many Tamil Brahmin traditions—confirm the exact sequence with your Vadhyar.

FAQ

How is the Masikam tithi calculated?
The death civil day’s Aparāhṇa śrāddha tithi is the ancestral tithi. Each later month, Masikam falls on the civil day when that tithi prevails at Aparāhṇa and is the preferred (non-śūnya) observance day.
Is Masikam the same as the English death date every month?
No. Masikam follows the lunar tithi, so Gregorian dates shift each month. Always use a place-specific panchang, not a fixed day-of-month.
